![]() Isaac George Jan 3rd, 2015 “Around and around she goes, and where she’ll stop, nobody knows” – Carnival barker line. Life is just full of surprises. One moment you can feel or believe you have it all figured out and the road ahead looks clear, the Sun is shining, and the skies are blue. Then suddenly, without warning, a bolt of lightning comes out of nowhere, throwing you to the ground and temporarily blinding you. You blink a few times, open your eyes, and the ground around you is blasted and smoking, and the skies have all been covered in dark, threatening clouds. The wind whistles and eddies around you, moaning and sighing. Slowly, you raise yourself up to survey the damage… Since the winter Solstice on December 21st, I have witnessed the lightning striking around me, and been directly affected by it as well. The astrological cues were certainly all there: Uranus going direct a mere 18 minutes before the Solstice. Then the New Moon at the Solstice degree arrived about two and half hours later, supercharged by the Uranian energies of surprise and change. The other antagonist was Saturn, ready to leave its two year, two month sojourn in Scorpio, and almost ready to plunge into Sagittarius…but still capable of wielding a few surprises from the emotional underbelly of Scorpio’s themes of death, rebirth, dark emotions and secrets. Nonetheless, I never saw this coming…not in a million years. Such is the nature of Life at times, and when the unlooked for tragedy or almost tragedy occurs, it is a shock. At such a time as the holidays, it can trigger many uncomfortable memories and emotions. We can come unglued, undone, reduced to the rawest emotions and a sense of the unfairness of what has happened. Grief, anger and steely resolve can supercede wisdom, good sense and clear perception. We just want to feel safe again, and have our pain assuaged. The surprises are still unfolding for some of us as well. All around the planet there are people who are worried about spouses, relatives or friends who have fallen ill or been in accidents at the start of the holiday times, and have had to cope as best as they can in the circumstances. The stress and anguish sometimes brings to the surface all manner of irrational and unkind behaviours, which only exacerbates the situation. In the midst of my own challenges I am amazed by how the clearest of our desires, intentions, hopes and dreams can be humbled, or put on hold, so suddenly and powerfully. Then, we must respond to what is so in front of us, and we will have to wait for a calmer time to assess the meaning of it all. We may never understand all the meanings, or all of the subtle nuances. It may take years. It may take a lifetime. With Uranus involved, we may have to give up on what the heck it all means. The Wheel of Fortune is one of the Tarot cards that form part of the Major Arcana. I’m not an expert in this divinatory system, but one of the classic definitions is; “…that it can indicate a vision or realization that strikes with great force. If you've been struggling with a problem or tough situation, this card can signal that you will find the answer if you stand back and view everything from a larger perspective. The Wheel of Fortune also represents unexpected encounters and twists of fate. You can't predict surprises; you can only be aware when one is circling around. Indeed, Card 10 often suggests wheel-like actions - changes in direction, repeating cycles and rapid movement. When the energy of the Wheel arrives, you will feel life speed up. You are caught in a cyclone that may deposit you anywhere. "Round and round and round she goes, and where she stops, nobody knows.”[Source: http://learntarot.com/maj10.htm] This definition is certainly fitting given what I have seen and experienced over the past 13 days. Just when we thought it was one way, it changes. And what changes suddenly under influences such as these can, and probably will, change again soon. In traditional Eastern spiritual philosophy, The Wheel of Fortune (or, misfortune) will be dubbed “karma”. Karma is just another label for patterns that repeat themselves, and make the cause of the original pattern obscure. In astrological terms ‘karma’ is manifesting as either a pattern to be recognized and healed, or one that holds a creative or transformative potential in the world. Transits, the movements of the planets in relationship to one’s own ‘blueprint’ or birth chart, is the Wheel of Fortune at work in the Cosmos and in the lives of each soul. What’s ahead though? Is the beginning of a New Year mean that the worst is over? What can we possibly expect now? The Full Moon in Cancer will cover tomorrow, Sunday, January 4th, and Monday January 5th...depending in which time zone you are in (chart below), and will be indicative of how things are going to unfold over the next three to four months. In other words, we’re not done with the themes and energies that dominated 2014. There is still one last square between Pluto and Uranus in mid-March, but before that there are opportunities to conclude any unfinished business from 2014. We are in a ‘hot’ time astrologically. ![]() What do I mean by “hot”? Well, this is another reprise of the Grand Cardinal Cross from April 23rd, 2014. Yes, the points of the astro-compass that are lit up once again are: North Node in Libra, Uranus and the South Node conjunct in Aries, the Moon in Cancer with the Vertex close by (timing of events), and the Sun and Pluto in Capricorn…all arranged at 13-14 degrees of each sign. Emotions will once again be featured (Cancer) as will power struggles for control (Capricorn) with Self (Aries) and the Other-s (Libra). There’s also a strong flow from Uranus and the South Node to the asteroid Goddess Juno. Again Juno says “do we wish to remain in this relationship, or do we not wish to remain in it?” She also represents exploring the edges of Consciousness…which opens us to Possibilities. The tug of war is between the old and the new, the past and the future, old karma and obligations versus creating the life we have dreamed of and experiencing the freedom to be fully alive…and possibly happy – perhaps even impossibly happy. This may be a time that our strength is defined by how we let go of what no longer serves us in our Soul’s evolution (Pluto). Into the fray marches Saturn, newly transplanted from his two years in Scorpio, and now just barely lodged in the sign of the Archer -Sagittarius. Mutable Fire is Sag’s element and the desire for the Truth is Sag’s quest. Saturn will demand the truth, will discover and cross-examine and dig up all the facts necessary for the case at hand. Essentially, what was hidden will come to light. What was obscure will be revealed. Prepare yourself for some real shock and awe. There’ll be no room to hide from the raw facts. This is Sgt Friday’s script from the old U.S. TV detective drama ‘Dragnet’ - “Just the facts ma’am…just the facts.” Dragnets will be set out for gathering evidence, looking for that which ultimately serves not just your truth, but THE Truth. On a Collective Scale, Saturn’s two plus years in Sag may well reveal the hollowness and sham of many of the major religions, spiritual movements, political systems and cultural trends. It will trash false idols and outmoded forms of control. It will take the fun out of fundamentalism, revealing how ridiculous and self-serving it is. But first, there is work to do. This time is about collecting and examining the facts of our experiences of the past 12-14 months. Yes, all the hoopla at the January 1st turnaround has been about visioning your projects and achieving your goals in 2015. But wait just a doggone minute…there hasn’t been a full accounting for what’s happened, or may still be happening! I suggest that we use this time for re-examining and then rebuilding our vision and intentions based on the new data that comes to light. Better to completely trash the old foundations (beliefs, patterns) than to try to build something on top of them that will eventually become a castle in the sand…unsustainable. For example: Where are we holding ourselves back because we are still bound by our own beliefs? Oops, maybe they are someone else’s beliefs? Are we feeling guilty, or doing anything from a place of ‘follow the rules’ that is coming from a sense of martyrdom or self-sacrifice? Chiron in Pisces will be in an easy flow with the Moon this weekend, allowing us to heal those places inside where we’ve felt insecure about asserting our power on our own behalf, thinking that by doing so we are stealing something away from others. Chiron also flows with Pluto and the Sun, providing a soft landing into realizing that power for the sake of control is not what this is about. It is through realizing that true power comes from surrendering to our Truth and moving on, rather than attempting to hang on to the familiar at all costs, so that we may reach for a new equilibrium. We can no longer afford this cost of clinging to outworn beliefs and patterns. After the next Pluto-Uranus square, we will need to live and demonstrate a new paradigm, not merely long for something different. It will be approximately 90 days between the last Pluto-Uranus square of Dec.15th and the upcoming one in the early hours of March 17th, 2015. There’s another gap of approximately 90 days between the Winter Solstice of Dec.21st 2014, and the Spring Equinox of March 20th, 2015. We are having a quarterly review! If you made out your intentions at the time of the Winter Solstice, and the current climate or situation makes it look like it is impossible to achieve or even to begin to manifest, hang on to it anyway. Watch and wait…don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater! Besides, the actual beginning of the New Year is March 20th, not January 1st. The Pagan or ancient timekeeping systems have been overlaid with the Christian calendar. But don’t be fooled! The real beginning of the return to the Light was Dec.21st, 2014, and until the Spring Equinox we need to be selecting the seeds we really want to plant, the ones we found so intriguing and exciting last year, and toss into the flames the ones that will not be fertile in the long run. As a footnote, Mercury will go Retrograde on January 21st, and while in Aquarius, it will be asking us to slow up and take stock of our new visions and ideals. We’ll need those three weeks to collate and integrate the information cycle that commences on January 5th, 2015. It is time to get out the pens, notebooks and magnifying glass, don your detective hats and cloaks, and begin the search for the facts that you’ll need to clear what is still untended from 2014.The Wheel of Fortune keeps on turning, and the clock is ticking towards the Ides of March, and the final Pluto-Uranus meeting. As for this weekend, especially today, Sunday and Monday, keep a box of tissues handy, and also your pen and notepad. If you get riled up, don’t squash it down either! There will be facts and insights inside of whatever the emotional storms toss up on the beach. So plan on doing some beachcombing for the little treasures that will free us from the past, and prepare us for the journey ahead. We’ve got work to do…and it will be worth it. I promise.
