By Isaac George May 11th 2018 “Live for yourself, and you will live in vain. Live for others, and you will live again.” – Bob Marley If you are reading this, perhaps you’ve always had a deep and unresolved yearning to know the “truth” about everything. Or, maybe you’ve just had some hard knocks in your life recently, and nothing is making much sense to you now. No matter how you slice it, the reality is that there are very few people who are self-actualized on this planet, who are successful according to society’s definitions, and don’t seem to have a care in the world. According to a report issued last spring by the World Health Organization (WHO) depression is now a major pandemic affecting millions worldwide, and it’s increasing with each passing month. Even the famous and successful actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has recently admitted that he was so depressed as a teenager after his mother attempted suicide that he was crying all the time, and he now urges men to open to their real feelings. [Links below] It’s not farfetched to think that we’re not really standing on solid ground any longer. The old beliefs, institutions, and explanations around our reasons for being alive and on this planet don’t cut it anymore, and as a species we are more stressed out, disconnected and yearning for meaning than ever before. Does it feel like you have no time or space to just BE, much less enjoy your life without having a moment’s respite from demands that our societies place on us? If so, then please read on. Human evolution may be viewed as travelling along two separate tracks. One track is the least populated…with a rainbow cross-section of people interested in developing spiritually, being ecologically and socially responsible, and devoted to psychological and biological health. The other track, populated by the majority, the people are either involved in a daily struggle for mere survival, or if you are one of the fortunate ones, a member of western democracies who are fully invested in capitalist economies that are fast becoming a danger to themselves and the health of the people who live and work in it, and a danger to the ecosystem. Add to this mix for both tracks, an increasingly face pace of life and work dependent on the emerging digital and information-based infrastructure and economies, which are based on technologies that naturally emit radiation levels that are now being shown to be inimical to human health, and we have a perfect storm of stress and dis-ease in the making.
Within these divergent tracks, the essential human desires are still there, the desires for love, connection, mutually assured sustainability, kindness, ease, creativity, health, and above all, meaning. The truths that our religions and scientists have asked us to depend on are becoming less relevant in these times. Increasingly people are seeking answers to the primary needs and questions: who am I, where did I come from, why am I here, and what does it mean to be alive? The newest question that is also on everyone’s minds and in the lexicon is “how we will survive?” With accelerating climate change and loss of habitat and potable water and arable lands, that question is set to become the driving force for our spiritual change. Suffering and pain create change in us. However, it doesn’t always have to be the pattern for change in our future. We have two things we are burdened by; our habitual beliefs, and our lack of information about our true origins and potential. For us to experience a sustainable and balanced life, we will require an overhaul of our minds, and a lessening of our dependence on rationality. Moving from a head-centered view to a heart-centered foundation isn’t easy, but it is necessary and healthy shift we all need to achieve. Like Dwayne Johnson, we must allow all our feelings to expressed and acknowledged. Developing wide empathy with all living things and seeing this Planet as sentient and worth cooperating with, may be our way to bridge from the current cultural cul-de-sac we are heading towards, and arrive in a new world that promotes all to thrive equally, while having all basic needs supplied. This isn’t Utopia, but it could be. Evolve or perish is our choice, and that is one of our super powers – the ability to choose. We need new information, new stories, and the absolute Truth if we are to create a New Earth, which could be an Eden once again. A mantra from the mystic Ram Dass goes “I am loving awareness”. Cultivating your awareness of love, is where you will find out more about who you are than you can ever glean from a psychic reading or an astrological chart, or a psychological profile. Cultivating your peace of mind is and inside job, and it begins with letting go of all your old definitions, stories, and traumas. Who you are is love. Why you’re here is to wake up from the matrix and re-enter the Garden. What you do with that is open the doors to others to do the same. Finally, hunger for the Truth…about everything. It is what will give your life meaning and it will set you free. Are you yearning to wake up to who you really are, and create a world that sings with freedom and love?
