We begin April like a lamb...or a bunny. As usual, no matter what is transpiring in the world of humans, Nature just keeps doing what comes naturally. Slowly, here and there, the harbingers of springtime are obvious. We are past some of the heaviest lunations we have had in some time but wait…there is more to come! Just not now.

Enjoying each moment has never meant as much now as it did before March 17th of 2020. Wherever you are, and whomever you are, I am sure you have been touched or affected in some way by the events of the past year. It has not been a picnic, and if there is one standout musical piece, I would pick to describe the feeling of the past year, it would be The Talking Head’s “Life During Wartime.” I can see David Byrne jogging around the stage at the end of the tune, like a rabbit with a fox on its tail.

So back to renewal and enjoying the moment. Personally, I feel like too little butter spread over too much bread. At other times, I am in the epiphany of no time, no movement. The contrasts are decidedly strong and illustrate the stark differences between being and doing, and what any of us have held on to for a strong sense of certainty, and that awkward sense of floating free, and randomly, unsure about anything or what may occur next. We need the being self to renew and refresh. We also need it to allow for what is beginning to happen now, which is like the download and updating from the original Source Codes within our cosmic archives. It is difficult to express this process at an organic level unless you can think like a seed. The oak seed contains the oakness of the tree it will eventually become. It knows what it knows without having to learn a thing! It does what it does, effortlessly. If one of us human types decide to “improve” that seed, we may try to cross it with something like an elm seed. Even so, the oak seed and the elm seed carry the original Divine instruction set and may reject the hybridization experiment. Trees can be like that…uncooperative. So, renewing something does not just mean to take a break, then continue something as before, like that is what we are supposed to be doing.

Many will be doing the Easter thing this weekend, beginning with the Christian calendar observation of Good Friday. Considering the Easter story, I never did see why they called it “good.” Anyway, unless one knows the original story, the seed story, one can easily assume that the Christian hybrid of holiday is what is the natural thing. In a nutshell, it is not the natural thing. In recent years, some historians and anthropologists have raised inconvenient issues about how the original meaning of these times is rooted in pagan fertility rituals, and other disturbing and uncivilised practices. The pagans thought it was cool to celebrate the rising of the sap in the woods and fields, so to speak, and did not carry around the shame-guilt syndrome that the three Abrahamic religions came up with. Good thing too. Even today, our original and innocent seed of divinity within us whispers, “I don’t know from shame, so why should you?”

If you are at all interested in realizing your true nature, your infinite self, your total humanity, then you might wish to consider that it will not become a realization unless you let go of your cherished beliefs, traditions, and ideologies. You cannot put new tires on a tired old car. This will become more apparent as we get deeper into the second half of April, and the inner arising of the original Divine blueprints will become quite noticeable. It will get a bit more intense inside of we and in the collective, starting around the next New Moon on April 11th-12th. More on that in next week’s edition of “State of the Planet”. The most important date to consider between now and then is Monday, April 5th, when the Moon and Pluto meet at 26 degrees of Capricorn...very close to the USA's natal Pluto. 

In the meantime, I heartily recommend you to Nature’s care. Spend time out of doors as much as possible this weekend. Check out the flowers, the bees, and if you spot a rabbit, you might follow it and see where he or she goes. You just may find Alice’s rabbit hole. Now would not that make the ‘normal’ world disappear?!

​​We are in the midst of a struggle for our future, the future of countless species, and indeed future of this Planet. Much is at stake. Even so, there are very good reasons that we are at this juncture, and it is first and foremost an opportunity to remember what is essential about us, and all of Life.

The situation is not without positive benefit and it definitely could end up with a great outcome. However, it will be up to each one of us, and all of us together, to realize such a positive outcome of love, health, prosperity, cooperation and community for everyone…not just for a few. More on what will be required of us to accomplish towards the end of the article.

Evo-Astrology Update:

Welcome to the Aquarian Era! Note, I said “era”, not Age.

One of the things I’ve learned from studying astrology over the past 25 years is that there is a big difference between sidereal astronomy and tropical astronomy. The former coincides with the greater cycles within our solar system, especially the precession of the Equinoxes, which are revered in mystical and pagan traditions as Nature’s own rhythms. It considers the planet’s rotational wobble (Chandler Wobble), which is what gives us our seasons, in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres.

So, back to the question of why I said “era” and not “Age”. In accounting for the precession of the Equinoxes, we are still approximately anywhere between 180 and 300 years away from complete immersion into the great Age of Aquarius (estimates vary wildly, dependent on the observer). ​As such, we are in the crossover zone between the ending of the Great Age of Pisces, and the upcoming Age of Aquarius. Each cycle is approximately 2,160 years across. Add all 12 signs up, and you get a 26,000 year galactic cycle, which is how long it takes for our planet, embedded within the 3rd spiral arm of the Milky Way galaxy, to complete one rotation around the Galactic Center.

Whew! Enough of that then.

The State of the Planet in 2021 is different than that of 2020 in some significant ways. Some have said that the Saturn-Jupiter ingress into Aquarius last December 21st, 2020 was the beginning of the Aquarian Age. As I have demonstrated, this is not accurate, nor helpful. There has been enough false hope peddled around for far too long.

In the ancient myths, Saturn was a Titan, and a tyrant. He was paranoid, jealous, and a cannibal. We ignore these aspects at our peril. Saturn was also the ancient ruler of Aquarius, a fixed air sign, and Air signs are inherently mental in orientation. Fixed means unwilling to change, unless there’s a lot of pressure.  When Uranus was discovered (also one of the Titans), a new energy lit up in our collective consciousness. Since Uranus vied with Saturn for rulership, and he exemplified change for it’s own sake (Uranus’ axis is tilted on it’s side, rather than north-south…and it rotates backwards), and astrologers assigned him to Aquarius, and left Saturn in charge of Capricorn.

Now that brings us to the over-riding astrological theme for 2021. There are three Uranus-Saturn squares this year, and one in 2022.

The ultimate spiritual and psycho-physical challenges this year lead on from 2020 when the predominant theme was set by the conjunction of Pluto and Saturn at 22 degrees of Capricorn on January 12th, 2020. The main theme or challenge for 2021 is the choice between freedom or slavery, a New Dispensation versus the morphing of the Old Order into a technocracy of control. Even more accurately, this is about organic versus synthetic life.

The very foundations of the previous cycle are undergoing a dis-integration, and as a result, those souls invested (or seduced) by the addiction to power-over Nature and humanity will try to manipulate the technologies to perpetuate their own positions. This is, of course, unsustainable in the long run. But minds addicted to certainty and safety, and out of touch with Nature, will take extreme measures to preserve the status quo, even if it is harmful to themselves.

I have been noticing and observing that the predominant preoccupation with the Age of Science and Medicine is to classify micro-components of the natural world as hostile to human biology, when in fact our biology exists in a symbiotic relationship with trillions of bacteria and other organisms. There is mounting evidence that when we introduce toxins of any type into the natural order, these microorganisms will attempt to rid themselves of the toxicity, and in turn, this may appear in biology as illness, or dis-ease. When this happens, it should alert us that something has changed in the equilibrium, the balance of Nature within and without. Instead, we treat the manifestation of illness as an invader, mercilessly and coldly attacking us and killing some of us.  The only question that remains is to identify and remove the sources of toxicity, whether it be in our air, water, food, or within our minds and emotions.

The cycle of Uranus in Taurus is pointing our attention to the things that relate to having a body and loving our bodies. Nurturing and love are part of the Taurus archetype. So is food, sex, pleasure, health and security, and harmony with Nature’s cycles. The Uranian influence here is squared, or challenged, by Saturn in Aquarius, which embodies a stance that is allied with A.I., virtual reality matrices, and are anti-body and by extension, anti-Nature.

As an example of what happens when any religion makes the body or Nature (and especially women and sexuality) a "problem" is in our collective history and memories. Centuries ago, many of the sacred groves of Middle Eastern pagan (polytheistic-matriarchal) cultures were destroyed, and thousands of their adherents to those in those cultures were brutally massacred.  A lot of trees were cut down in the process too…a foreshadowing of what would follow in Europe during the Middle Ages with the millions of "witches" murdered, and now in our own times, with the destruction of the Amazonian rainforest.  We are still suffering with the imprinting or programming from what is essentially a cultural and spiritual war that was fueled by patriarchial monotheism.
 
Strategies for Living Heaven (Aquarian Age) During the age of Covid and Transhumanism:

Looking at our own shadow and facilitation of our own karmic baggage and projections has been underway since the discovery of the planetoid Chiron in 1977. Chiron heralded the return of many ancient and mystical healing traditions and modalities and spurred the creation of many new and novel modes of healing. Self-help books, workshops and human potential movements sprang up over the next couple of decades. It took a while longer, into the late 1990’s and early 21st century to realise the peril and healing crisis on a global scale. Our ecosystems were beginning an accelerated breakdown, but for most, the call to heal was still based on a very personal path.

Challenge your own assumptions. Protect yourself and your loved ones from over-exposure to artificial EMF’s. Buy a water filter for your home. Learn deep breathing techniques, and perhaps grow a small veg garden. Dance more, make love…to everything. Meditate, reflect, spend time in Nature. Self-care is essential…always!

Listen to your heart of Hearts…trust your intuition. Trust your Self. Trust in Spirit. There is no higher authority than what resides within you.

These are just some intentions we can make and some of the actions we can take in order to retrieve and enhance our divine sovereignty, instead of being subsumed into the dark side of the Aquarian shadow...the dictates of the crowd or group...the obedient hive mind.

Keep an eye on that Dragon of Fear and give it no quarter. There is a world of difference between practical safety and irrational fear. The latter is being used as a weapon daily, all over the world in media and politics.

Stop feeding the beast…and feed your soul. Feed one another. Love one another.

The balance of February includes Mercury Retrograde in Aquarius and the New Moon in Aquarius on February 11th. I see this time as an opportunity to review priorities. I used this as an opportunity to remove myself from Instagram (left Facebook last November). As a culture, we currently are unable to comprehend how deep down in the bowl of digital soup we are, how disembodied we have become. Our task as healers, as mystics, as spiritual activists and change artists is to reclaim ourselves from a world designed by others, for their own profit.

You are not a machine.

Looking around these days, whether its in my Inbox, on my social media feeds, or listening to the chatter I pick up on in cafes, I am hearing and seeing loads of messages about becoming more proficient, productive and efficient in your career, workplace, home space and lifetstyle. A near constant litany of ways to improve this, hack that, and strategies for achieving more are even pervasive (as I see it) than in recent memory. In fact, they are becoming just as annoying as pop-up ads. Juxtaposed against this stream of consciousness (am I being too kind here?) are another set of messages warning us about the dysfunctional nature of our lifestyle choices, and how they are increasing our depression, affecting our health, and ultimately calling into question the whole basis of our way of life. Day to day living is becoming a search for the next dopamine fix when you check your smartphone.

Which messages are you listening to?

It seems as if the mindfulness movement has been hijacked to serve our need for ever more security, stuff and to secure some arbitrary ideal of what the “perfect live” looks like. Are we using the tools of metaphysics and spirituality as they were originally designed, or have we co-opted them for our personal ego agendas and possible gain? The wellness industry is a kind of oxymoron really, another adjunct or app to help us to continually cope and produce. However, what happens when you really slow down, and take a closer look, and reflect? The chasing is never-ending. The finding ever more elusive.

Is it all making you happier, or just more miserable than ever?

Worry, anxiety and depression, along with obesity, drug and alcohol addiction, and gender and racial abuses is on the rise. So are authoritarian right-wing politicians and governments. We’re behaving like chronically unfulfilled, hungry ghosts searching for a material or spiritual Nirvana. Perhaps further away from that goal than we'd care to admit. Ultimately, we must ask ourselves, what is it all for, and what is the point?

Whether we like it or not, we are also connected to every other living thing on this world, and we all are having a shared experience. (That's an even a deeper rabbit hole I could take this down, but that’s for another time.) If you are wondering what the most graceful and sensible next steps for reducing or eliminating fear, stress and anxiety in your life, then here is what I’ve found works for me, and for many of those whom I call my clients and friends.

We all have a desire and need to feel love for ourselves, for a significant other, and to be loved in return. This inherent need is part of just being human, and the need for acceptance, touch and empathy is a basic right of just being alive. From a spiritual or metaphysical persperctive, we’re always in relationship with something – ourselves with our feelings and thoughts, our environment, Nature, and other people. There can be growth when spending time in solitude, following a spiritual practice or using the tools of self-inquiry or meditation to look deeper within. This often is cyclical, and we eventually our curiosity and desire for connection drives us to seek the companionship.

Recently I invited people on my mailing list and on social media to participate in a two-fold survey. There were two areas I wanted feedback on: spirituality, spiritual practices and spiritual or shamanic “emergence.”, and intimate relationships and partnering, and the responses to this category were very revealing for me.

The number one challenge-issue-fear was around trust. Over 90% of the respondents cited this factor above all else, including communication, cooperation, or sexual intimacy issues. Trusting the other or one’s own motivations, even surrendering to love itself and all the vulnerability it demands is demands that we deal with our own anxieties, insecurities and woundings from past dissapointments, betrayals or abuse. Some of the respondents also cited difficulties with communication, fears of losing oneself in the other, or experiencing the polarity of abandonment or suffocation.

Our way of relating and being in relationship is predicated on the models we learned through our upbringing and the messages from our cultures. These have conditioned our behaviours in how we connect and relate at any age. Sometimes the memories in our soul, or in our parent’s unhealed events with their upbringing, brings us into contact with unhealthy patterns. Co-dependency, broken attachments with one parent or another can cause to unconsciously attract the exact opposite situations that we’re really desiring.

My direct experiences and observations during the last 10 years or so tells me that many of these patterns and beliefs, as well as our relationships themselves, are under pressure to change. There are many more people who are becoming weary with any superficiality in their relationships and love connections, and I’ve seen a profound increase in the interest in soulmate, soul-based partnerships. There’s also a growing awareness of the phenomenon of twin flames and twin souls. This is becoming an area of interest that isn’t just about finding the perfect partner – it has broader spiritual implications and potentials. Just Google these terms and conduct your own research if you’re curious.
I would also add to this discourse the language and science of astrology which I see as a big part of the changes in relationship these days.

The end of the Mayan Calendar in 2012 ushered in the first of the Uranus-Pluto Squares. Uranus entered the sign of Aries in March, 2011, the sign of the warrior and being more individualized and independent. Between June 2012 and March of 2015 there were 7]seven exact contacts through Pluto and Uranus being in a square aspect, which is Mastery through Challenge. I personally went through a deep spiritual transformation via the disintegration of a long-term partnership and a rebirth into envisioning a newer and more egalitarian partnership model and opportunity.

The bottom line here is that so many of the issues coming up within relationships now are asking us to grow and let go of many of our dysfunctional ways of being so that we can actually come in to a real and experiential equality with those we are in closest resonance with, and really explore conscious relating and mutually supportive and creative ways for helping each other to express our deepest gifts for the benefits of others, and manifest our desires and Soul Mission.

My orientation is that our spirituality, creativity, sensitivity and sexuality are all intertwined in this transformative process. Once we have grounded fully within ourselves without shame or guilt, then our vibration changes and we begin to attract those who will mirror with us in love, harmony, abundance, and yes, in complete trust. It is also the foundation for building a fair and equitable economic system, sustainable communities, and a healthy relationship with our home planet.

Lunar Eclipse – March 23rd, 2016

The bookend to the Solar Eclipse of March 8th-9th will arrive tomorrow at 12:01pm GMT. This is a partial or annular Lunar Eclipse of the Full Moon, with the Sun at 3 degrees 17 minutes of Aries, and the Moon opposite at 3 degrees 17 minutes of Libra. As I recounted in my Sunday blog, “Creative Chaos”, there are strong connections to what happened six months ago during the Solar and Lunar Eclipses of September 2015. You can read or re-read that post here.  Suffice it to say that this is a fundamental reset of the “game”, and it will not only set the tone for the next six months, till the eclipses of September 2016, but quite conceivably for many months beyond that juncture. Time will tell, as it always does.

Into the Way Back Machine!

I’ve been looking back to when there were any lunations (New Moons, Full Moons) or eclipses in Aries and Libra between 2011 and 2013. I selected 2011, because Uranus entered the sign of Aries on March 11th, 2011…the day of the massive temblor and tsunami that devastated Sendai province in northeastern Japan. I found two charts, one in March of 2012 and another one also in March of 2013 that are very close to the one this is coming up this Wednesday, and is also strongly connected to the “Blood Moon” Lunar Eclipse of September 28th, 2015. In all of the four charts the Sun and Moon are tightly arranged between 2 degrees and 7 degrees of these two signs. I’ve included them with the chart for our Lunar Eclipse tomorrow at the end of this blog.

Finally, the last blast from the past to reveal was that there was a Lunar Eclipse at almost the exact same degrees of Aries-Libra as the next one this Wednesday (chart below as well). If you can reel in the years and go back to March 24th,1997,  reflect on what was happening for you at that time, it may put a huge spotlight of understanding on your current situation, and provide you with the wisdom and courage to act in accordance with your Inner Truth.

Oh, You Again…”

Simply stated, Aries is all about the Self…”I Am.” Equally simple is that Libra is about “The Other.” There is always a relationship happening in everything…throughout the Cosmos, from the subatomic level to the galaxies themselves. Some physicists theorize that there are bonds and bleedthroughs between parallel Universes. Anyway, the Aries-Libra polarity represents the astrological version of The Lovers card in the Tarot, or the Sacred Marriage from the mystery schools. It manifests from the strictly personal level to the Universal Level.  Beyond the duality of form, they are Divine Principles that emanate into all manifest forms, and yet are completely fused in the Absolute and are completely indivisible. That’s big supra-metaphysical theorising on my part, but feels right as a model.

The challenge is how do we balance the needs or desires of the Self (Mars-Masculine) with the needs and desires of The Other (Venus-Feminine)?  The seemingly eternal dance between these two forces makes for a lot of interesting poetry, music, art, fables…and tragedies.  From an evolutionary astrological perspective for the past four years we have been on a revolutionary road of dismantling and reforming our psyches through the uncomfortable crucible of intimate and challenging relationships, and all of them have been steeped in a shamanic unravelling and healing of our relationship karma. When I use the word “karma”, I’d like for you to reference that word in a new way. Think “unconscious patterns based on equally hidden vows or beliefs”.  Throughout time and space, we have met ourselves again and again with many of our “other selves” and have sought to balance the eternal dance that is ultimately about realising Love as a state or condition of being.

Is there a manual for this thing?

Okay, it hasn’t been easy, and it’s not a process that is culminating with Wednesday’s latest edition of Aries-Libra lunations/eclipses. I don’t have a crystal ball, or a road map, or even a factory issued user’s manual, but I do sense that this event on Wednesday may be a gateway to the final purification of eons of relationship trauma and drama. At least that’s what my instincts are saying just now. We are being given an evolutionary push to change our beliefs, and more importantly, our understanding about the purpose and potentials of human intimacy and conscious partnerships. It can be sometimes difficult to discern, but almost every challenge our species now faces, from how we care for ourselves or look after each other, to how we reinvent and reimagine our economic, political, scientific and societal structures… to how we end our mistreatment of the planet and her resources, hinges on how much we trust in ourselves and the ones we love the most.

We pump the message that we need to love ourselves, and yet we are starving for connection. In his cynical and disenfranchised tone, Elliot, the hacker in the new television drama “Mr Robot”, bemoans the current state of human love: “[…is it because we’re] spamming with our running commentary of bullshit masquerading as insight, our social media faking as intimacy?” Perhaps the age of digital love is about to have a rude awakening, or perhaps we are awakening to the rudeness of digital socialization.

The Rest of the Story

While the foreground is the Sun and the Moon in the Lunar Eclipse, the background cast is equally important.  The day after the Eclipse Saturn will station retrograde in Sagittarius. He will move direct on August 14th at 9 degrees of Sag, and be very close to Mars at 5 Sagittarius. The upcoming Mars retrograde in Sagittarius and Scorpio is a story in and of itself, so I will save that for an April post.

On the day of the Eclipse Saturn will be in a stressful T-Square with Venus and Neptune in Pisces, and retrograde Jupiter in Virgo. I feel that having this happen just before Saturn goes into inward (retrograde) motion is a phase of reviewing and integrating the energies and lessons of all the previous eclipses, and indeed, or all the Aries-Libra contacts of the past four years. It’s a time for introspection, and it won’t work to be doing hard-nosed analysing (Virgo) about matters of the heart and soul. The Venus-Neptune conjunction will be the main energy here…asking us to be compassionate and forgiving, and to also re-image a Higher aspect of romantic and intimate Love. I use the word romance not in a story-book way, but in a way to celebrate the “lift” that we experience with romantic love. I feel that real spiritual love, one that is rooted in mutual respect and deep honesty, is extremely romantic. It gives us that sense of “coming home” that we all long for…and know we deserve. I highly recommend this amazing video clip to get a better feel for what my poor words are trying to express. True Love and the Four Elements of Love – Thich Nhat Hanh. The first seven minutes carries the nugget of the message.

Mars in Sagittarius will be trine the Sun and is sextile to the Moon. This adds a strong but egalitarian tone of asking that we tell the Truth…to ourselves and whomever we’re currently partnered with. Even if we are not with a significant other, our intention towards emanating compassion and love to those we are in connection with, in whatever form, will still have a potent effect. Ending conflict both from within and towards others is the idea.  Mercury will be conjoined to the Sun as well, so there may be an impulsiveness to ask questions in a very rapid-fire style, like a special interrogator questioning a suspect in a crime. Uncomfortable but necessary truths may suddenly come to light. The juxtaposition between Mars and Mercury will be daunting, and a bit paradoxical. You may be thinking, "Do I stick to the hard facts only, or do I allow leeway for compassionate understanding?" I suppose the answer to that will depend on what type of information is unearthed. The asteroid goddess Juno is retrograde (inverted) in Scorpio, and will be in a harmonious flow with Venus and Neptune. The need for passion within our partnering is denoted by this placement. Juno typically is associated with the traditions of marriage, but in Scorpio, marriage is elevated to a sacrament through passion and sexuality. There can be no true intimacy without being naked in body and soul to the Beloved. This is soul Tantra, and is something we all possess, but has been civilised out of us and forgotten. Tantric practices were invented to reawaken us to the primal truth that is in the divine nature within our bodily forms. Ecstasy is a natural state that exists when we are in harmony with Nature, with the Goddess.

The Next Steps

Between now and the next set of eclipses in September I feel that it will be a time of greater movement and greater clarity in our understanding of ourselves, of others and what our hearts and souls truly desire to create in this world. Everything is connected, and the arena of our interpersonal relationships echoes throughout the human and planetary construct. If we truly wish to have a different future, then the ghosts of our past must be confronted and lovingly and empathically embraced. We cannot cure prior wounding without acknowledging our held emotions and deep longings. The relationship issues we had with our parents are reflections of all of our previous bonding experiences with each other as lovers, spouses, siblings, parents or even just workmates and friends. To change the story of our personal and collective past is to alter the future.

We have the potential to live the life of our dreams. I suggest that those dreams include others in many ways. To balance our needs with the greater needs of our entire species is the way forward. Everyone has a right to clean water, good food, warm shelter, comfortable clothing and personal safety. And everyone needs closeness, affection, recognition and love. Dr. Dean Ornish’s book, “Love and Survival” is a wonderful testament to the power of connection and what it means to be fully human. I recommend it to you as one of many potential guides to how we can imagine and create new and sacred ways of relationship, ways that don’t cause us to fall back into martyrdom or self-effacement. More importantly, we can end the cycle of heartache and heartbreak that is at the core of our spiritual wounding…the false sense that we are separate from our Source, and from each other.

Move forward into the sacred marriage with your inner Beloved and invite that Beloved into your purpose for being here on this planet at this time. Let your deepest dreams and yearnings be expressed. Begin with yourself, then with your beloved, then in communion with others of your “tribe”, then in wider community. It grows exponentially when we choose love, collaboration and cooperation.
