You are not a machine.
Looking around these days, whether its in my Inbox, on my social media feeds, or listening to the chatter I pick up on in cafes, I am hearing and seeing loads of messages about becoming more proficient, productive and efficient in your career, workplace, home space and lifetstyle. A near constant litany of ways to improve this, hack that, and strategies for achieving more are even pervasive (as I see it) than in recent memory. In fact, they are becoming just as annoying as pop-up ads. Juxtaposed against this stream of consciousness (am I being too kind here?) are another set of messages warning us about the dysfunctional nature of our lifestyle choices, and how they are increasing our depression, affecting our health, and ultimately calling into question the whole basis of our way of life. Day to day living is becoming a search for the next dopamine fix when you check your smartphone.
Which messages are you listening to?
It seems as if the mindfulness movement has been hijacked to serve our need for ever more security, stuff and to secure some arbitrary ideal of what the “perfect live” looks like. Are we using the tools of metaphysics and spirituality as they were originally designed, or have we co-opted them for our personal ego agendas and possible gain? The wellness industry is a kind of oxymoron really, another adjunct or app to help us to continually cope and produce. However, what happens when you really slow down, and take a closer look, and reflect? The chasing is never-ending. The finding ever more elusive.
Is it all making you happier, or just more miserable than ever?
Worry, anxiety and depression, along with obesity, drug and alcohol addiction, and gender and racial abuses is on the rise. So are authoritarian right-wing politicians and governments. We’re behaving like chronically unfulfilled, hungry ghosts searching for a material or spiritual Nirvana. Perhaps further away from that goal than we'd care to admit. Ultimately, we must ask ourselves, what is it all for, and what is the point?
Whether we like it or not, we are also connected to every other living thing on this world, and we all are having a shared experience. (That's an even a deeper rabbit hole I could take this down, but that’s for another time.) If you are wondering what the most graceful and sensible next steps for reducing or eliminating fear, stress and anxiety in your life, then here is what I’ve found works for me, and for many of those whom I call my clients and friends.

“Live for yourself, and you will live in vain. Live for others, and you will live again.” – Bob Marley
If you are reading this, perhaps you’ve always had a deep and unresolved yearning to know the “truth” about everything. Or, maybe you’ve just had some hard knocks in your life recently, and nothing is making much sense to you now. No matter how you slice it, the reality is that there are very few people who are self-actualized on this planet, who are successful according to society’s definitions, and don’t seem to have a care in the world.
According to a report issued last spring by the World Health Organization (WHO) depression is now a major pandemic affecting millions worldwide, and it’s increasing with each passing month. Even the famous and successful actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has recently admitted that he was so depressed as a teenager after his mother attempted suicide that he was crying all the time, and he now urges men to open to their real feelings. [Links below]
It’s not farfetched to think that we’re not really standing on solid ground any longer. The old beliefs, institutions, and explanations around our reasons for being alive and on this planet don’t cut it anymore, and as a species we are more stressed out, disconnected and yearning for meaning than ever before. Does it feel like you have no time or space to just BE, much less enjoy your life without having a moment’s respite from demands that our societies place on us? If so, then please read on.

“I can't believe you people. I come for you, and you want to stay, I let you stay and you want to go!” – Death, from “Meet Joe Black”
Death…and Taxes. Sometimes paying taxes feels like a dying…like some precious life blood was being taken from you by force, or at least without your enthusiastic cooperation.
The 21 grams. The anomaly of how much lighter a human corpse is after the us that is “us” has vacated, and gone…where?
Ever wonder why it is that most people don’t have a single memory of where they were before their birth? Stranger still, how many can remember their last death, their last life prior to that death, or what came after. Can you remember, or know anyone who can? And, if you did, how can you tell if what it is you’re remembering is true, accurate, infallible?
I read a book a long time ago entitled “What Dream May Come” by Richard Matheson. Yes, it was made into to film later, starring Robin Williams, but that came 20 years after I read it. In the Introduction, Matheson wrote this: “To the Reader…

December 2nd 2017
Greetings! To those of you over in my old homeland of the USA, I hope you enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving with your families and friends. They don't observe T-Day here in the UK, but frankly, my waistline won't miss out much. The next holiday season will be arriving in about 25 days from now.
I want to ask you something. As 2017 is drawing to a close, how has your year been? Be honest with yourself now... have all your goals, hopes and dreams you intended at the beginning of this year been realized? Bottom line, are you actually more fulfilled, healthy (emotionally, mentally and physically), prosperous and happy than you were in January? If your answer is "Yes", then good on ya! If your answer is "heck no!", then read on.
No matter which side of the equation you find yourself after that question, I feel you'd agree with me on a couple of key points. 1) This planet is a radiant and beautiful place... and is very much worth preserving. 2) There's a lot going on in the world that isn't okay, that isn't radiant and beautiful... or fair to all. 3) That there needs to be a saner, better way to live that isn't so costly and destructive to our souls, psychologically physically, socially or environmentally. 4) That we can, and indeed must, find the personal and collective will, guided by our Creator, to envision and create a new world that is a type of heaven on the Earth.
From the burgeoning refugee crisis in the Middle East, to the opoid epidemic sweeping the United Sates; from the human trafficking and sexual abuse that seems pervasive everywhere, to the widening gap between the elite who create and control more and more of the global wealth and resources; from the crushing hunger and homelessness... and hopelessness that we see around us, to the increasing breakdowns of individual freedoms and once-reliable institutions, we are all in some way either part of the problem, or part of the solution to these evils and ills. I use the term evil to define problems that have, or seem to be, beyond addressing or repair. However, I am in no way saying we are powerless or helpless to make a difference. To paraphrase Gandalf from Lord of the Rings when he counselled Frodo, we're here in these times to do what we can with the time we have been given.
We are immensely complex, sensitive and powerful creations of Divine Love. We are capable of so much more than what the world and our past has defined us to be. We possess the imagination of the gods and goddesses, and are capable of creating our own versions of hell or heaven. It's always our choice... and we own nothing more valuable than our power to choose, and change.
Beginning today I am making a re-commitment to my spiritual path as an emissary of Love, a speaker of truth to power, and desire to help others realize Who They Are beyond their past stories, or future fears. To make a difference in the lives of others requires that we first see ourselves with the eyes of Spirit, not the ego.
If you'd like to move forward in 2018 towards more freedom within and without, an empowered sense of purposeful living through right livelihood, more nurturing and fulfilling relationships, an understanding of how the world really works, and why it's no longer healthy to just try and "fit in" to simply survive, then I'd like to invite you on to a free exploratory call with me. I will listen to your deepest desires, and your most prevalent fears. I will then suggest some things that you can take action on right now to bring you more into the Present moment and start getting clearer within about the next steps to take. I can then explain to you how my Spiritual Mentoring program and tools can further your growth and self- realization, and how to live a more peaceful and grounded life in a world that is going to change even more dramatically in the times to come. For me, a successful life has little to do with the size of your bank balance or stock portfolio, or accomplishments. It has everything to do with how peaceful, joyful and loving you are towards yourselves and others. Have you loved well, and have you made someone's life better by your being here? That's a success that you can take with you at the end of your life here.
The invitation is below. Remember that you have the power to choose between the past, or an uncertain future, or a future that you want to face. A future that you can live fully in the Presence of right now, right here. There's absolutely no obligation or selling involved.
To find out more, join me for a little chat together. I look forward to hearing from you.

You may have been experiencing and on-again, off-again crisis mode this past week or so, as there are a number of factors involved. Some are the general breakdowns globally, both politically, economically, socially and ecologically. Other influences are astro-events such as the Chiron Retrograde which began July 1st, Mercury in Cancer first opposing Pluto on June 29th, followed by Mars opposing Pluto on July 1st. And the Inuit Eskimo astro-goddess Sedna squared the Nodal Axis of Leo-Aquarius on July 4th. Pluto figures in very prominently during these times, which brings me to the main subject – POWER. There’s a ginormous difference between Power and Empowerment. A recent article in the monthly periodical Atlantic shows that the pursuit and acquisition of power causes brain damage! That’s right, and you can view that article HERE.
For me, this article partially explains both sides of the psychopath question: does the desire for power require a lack of empathy, or does the acquisition of power create an empathic vacuum in the individual? As with most things, it’s probably a both/and situation, rather than an either/or. However, there are stark differences to the nature of power versus what we term “empowerment.”
Empowerment is essentially the gift of becoming aware of our innate gifts of imagination, creation and choice. It has nothing whatsoever to do with exalting our egos, or our sense of “Self.” In fact, truly empowering activities are evidenced when we demonstrate our acceptance of ourselves as we already are…at any given moment. This empowers others to do the same. This is accomplished via our propensity for modeling, or “mirroring” something that looks good or better than what we’re currently experiencing. For example, helping someone else in a difficult life situation through guidance or emotional support actually raises the bar for both people. In other words, all ships rise on the same tide.
To FEEL empowered is due to our seeing others as we see ourselves, and knowing our worth. This means we all deserve kindness, love and consideration. These are the soul-gifts we have to share. Others then discover their innate worth and the gifts they have to give while here on Earth. The image below is an image of power that is used for self-aggrandisement (Kevin Spacey from the television drama “House of Cards”) The paradox is that this series came to mind while I was watching a film rich with messages about the source of real empowerment. That film is “Pay It Forward”, which is almost twenty years old now, and also starred Kevin Spacey. The contrast was so startling that I recommend you watch the movie first, then perhaps a few episodes of House of Cards, which is available on Netflix.
So, power isn’t everything. In fact, our source of true power is only “power with,” not “power over.” Too much of what passes for empowerment these days is nothing more than our flexing our muscles through creating strong boundaries. This may be a necessary phase when we’ve been so indoctrinated by the prevalent victim-perpetrator syndrome in our psyches. We first realize we’ve been manipulated or abused in some way, and at the time it seems that the only way to feel safe again is to create strong boundaries and flex our muscles and show them who’s in charge. We become “in charge” of ourselves. However, even the perpetrator is a victim, and only feels safe when he or she is dominant or in charge. There’s the paradox of power. It’s really about the fear of what may happen if we allow ourselves to be vulnerable, trusting, and soft. It’s about choosing Love over fear.
When we choose Love, then “power with” others and Nature is discovered to be the most successful strategy, and turns everything into play. In fact, it’s always been the only effective strategy. Our gatherer-hunter ancestors survived for thousands of years based on mutual cooperation and sharing. Competition and hoarding were deemed “insane” by them. And the concept of “work” was unknown. There isn’t even a word for “work” in the language of most indigenous peoples. One has to wonder if the concept of work may also be part of our “victim-perpetrator-savior” complex. Power “over” is always based on ego superiority, and it exists in all religions and political thought. Love is the only spiritual path worth following.
However, this Path of Love/Empowerment isn’t all pink bunny rabbits and flowers. Love has a strong empowerment component to it as well, the power of Love in defense of Life. We see it in Nature all the time. A mother bear protects it’s cubs from other predators. The symbiotic cooperation of sea anemones and clown fish. Mutual survival can coincide with standing up to wanton destruction or an imminent threat to Life by knowing we have the power to stand together and thwart that which is unhealthy, unsafe, or unsound. Life on this planet is worth defending, and when we join a movement or worthy cause that seeks to end the ecocide on this planet, or seeks to liberate other human beings from injustice, oppression or bondage, then we are also saving ourselves, and future generations, from the insane consequences of “power over.” The big problem with “power over” is that you can lose it. When you’re in alignment with Spirit, and don’t see others as separate from you, then power with is self-sustainable and infinite.
Last thoughts: What do you feel when you really look out into the stars above us that stretch outwards towards Eternity? I personally am always in awe of the pure nature of the Universe, and from whence it arises. True humility is empowering. When we can realize that although we’re apparently insignificant compared to the grandeur of Creation, and that we’re each designed to actually appreciate these wonders, we can relax a little, and discover the richness of just being alive!
It is that spark of Spirit inside each of us that just knows that we’re simultaneously very tiny, and also Infinite. When you remember that, you’ll find the only source of true power, and you can’t ever lose it. Now that’s powerful!
