On June 24th, 2016, approx. 5:10am British Summer Time, Britain voted to leave the European Union.

Shock and awe. George W. Bush would’ve been proud. Heck, maybe he is proud. I don’t know, but as we woke up to the chaotic mess Friday morning in Europe after the Brexit vote in Great Britain became official, the obituaries are already pronouncing that it is no longer Great or even Britain, but Little England. Premature…all of it, and here's why...

We are living through one of the most powerful times and shifts in consciousness that the human species has hitherto experienced. The reason for this is that categorically we’re intrinsically part of and witness to the end of the industrial age of capitalism and consumerism, or the age of “goal setting, planning and doing.” We are now entering a new era of “whatever I feel is right in the moment to do, then that’s what I want to do.” This is all about Patriarchal control versus Feminine instinct and improvisation.

Fellow traveler and astrologer Jim Buss created the words “Yangtegrity” and “Yintegrity” to describe this transitional state of being. Yangtegrity is doing what is expected of us to do by others and institutions. Yintegrity is following your spirit moment by moment, or in other words, listening to your desires as they lead you to your soul’s mission on how to contribute to building a new world, rather than trying to preserve or fix the old one. In essence, we’d find that intrinsically boring in the long run, and almost impossible to achieve as well…for a number of reasons. Declining natural resources, increasing populations, wealth inequality, climate change and a host of other factors are all cluing us to the fact that “business as usual” will need to change its stripes, or nobody wins, much less survives.

Those of us who were experiencing spiritual awakenings in the 1980’s and 1990’s remember the various ascension scenarios and prophecies about the coming “New Age” and the demise of the old order. What no one took into account in our starry-eyed Utopian visions would be the amount of work we’d face in jettisoning our old pictures of reality, our trauma-laden childhoods (and karmic self-sabotage) and the vast number of humans who are still totally dependent and clinging on to the old systems to survive. Resistance to fundamental change is still there in the consensus reality. We’re having a mega identity crisis, as we all had hoped for some kind of orderly handover from our past and a smooth arrival into our future. That perception might have been a tad naïve. One thing I feel the Brexit vote certainly reveals is the growing frustration within the 99% towards the 1%. The currency speculator George Soros managed to make some big profits off the back of the Brexit vote, and will not be endeared by many for his boasting about it.

To make this singular event totally about politics, immigration or economics is to miss the point. Yes, those elements are there, but they signal a deeper disillusionment within people across a wider spectrum that something has to change, even if it is through a temporary “wrong” choice. Perhaps many felt that voting ‘Leave’ was the only way to return to an identity of something resembling the Britain they knew in their formative years. There is also mounting evidence that it was partly a protest vote to punish the Tory Party for six years of austerity cuts and mismanagement of the economy and immigration policy. Many people don’t want to lose their connection with the familiar…that would create too much anxiety. In astrology this is represented by the South Node, the karmically remembered and familiar sense of “me”.  So, in the end, (from my perspective and research at least) people voted from a place of fear or protest...of one type or another.

In a way, these transitional years after the Uranus-Pluto squares of 2012-2015 is like life during wartime. One timeline and set of values against an emerging consciousness and set of new values (or old ones recycled). This may not seem like a time to celebrate or dance, but as the 'hero'  said in the movie “V for Vendetta”, a revolution without dancing is not a revolution worth having. Things may get even stranger over this summer and early autumn, until something resembling a plateau of stability forms. There is enough Uranian action later in this year and into the first quarter of 2017 to keep us on our toes. This ain’t no disco to be sure, but dancing is sure better than standing in the middle of the highway.

I would like to encourage developing better dance steps, i.e., more flexibility and awareness, as we progress through the upcoming launch of Mars in Scorpio stationing to move direct this Wednesday, and Chiron in Pisces stationing to go retrograde on June 29th. Mars will officially move forward in direct motion on July 1st. This will be a welcome relief. The continued waning square between Saturn in Sagittarius and Neptune in Pisces will still give a tinge of unreality or vagueness to most everything. This will be especially true as regards the process around Britain selecting a new Prime Minister, which will need to occur before any decision can be enacted to trigger the UK to actually leave the EU. Until Article 50 of the Lisbon Agreement is enacted by a new Prime Minister, this vote is still non-binding on Britain…no matter how much the EU wants the divorce to happen yesterday.

On top of this confusion, a new petition in the UK to hold a second referendum has garnered over 2.5 million signatures. There well could be a lot of uncertainty for some time as to the real outcome, so don’t rule anything a sure thing just yet. The vote occurred while Mars was still technically retrograde, along with Pluto, Saturn, and Neptune, so nothing is set in stone as a result of this referendum result.

For you personally, no matter what your chart makeup might be, I’d say be willing to look closely and lovingly at any frustrations, anger, or anxiety you might have in your life right now. To accept your emotional states as valid and ‘okay’ is important. Most of our anxiety is about whether it’s okay to feel our more ‘out of control’ or ‘not okay’ emotions. In order to defuse that tension, so you can move out of being in freeze frame and move and breathe freely, it may be helpful to sit with any held or uncomfortable feelings and just send love to them. I also recommend ‘asking’ the emotion or feeling what it might be telling you, but without over-intellectualizing it. The feeling or emotion wants to express…not be fixed. Staying loving and conscious through challenging times is tricky, but not impossible. The trouble is that when we flounder, we sometimes just are reluctant to slow down and really look at why we aren’t in a sense of safety, joy, or even ecstasy. If we’re not comfortable or feeling unsafe it’s a call to action and awareness.

For non-students and students of astrology I’ve included just two charts below to illustrate the main pressure points behind the outcome of the Brexit Referendum. When studying your own chart or an event chart, keep one thing in mind - the apparent influence of astrology is actually a mirror of our own consciousness. Astrology doesn’t make things happen. But as a language of archetypes and symbols, it shows us the synchronistic process of Consciousness unfolding through time-space on our particular stage in the Universe.

The chart on the left is the Act of Union chart for the formation of the United Kingdom on January 1st, 1801. The chart on the right is that same chart in the middle, surrounded by the planetary aspects for roughly the time that the vote result was announced. There are a number of standout factors:

1. Ceres at 24 Aries, with Uranus and Eris at 23 Aries: This triple conjunction including the dwarf planet Ceres who represents nurturing, food and nourishment. Not very cuddly in Aries and more likely wants some kind of mutual action. Uranus (change) and Eris (discord) combined here in the 7th house of the UK Union Chart signifies the need or desire for independence and a divorcing of oneself from a union. This union is seen as repressive or controlling, and the need to break away quickly is desired.
   
   
2. UK Union Chart Ceres at 23 Taurus opposed by transiting retrograde Mars in Scorpio: Mars in Scorpio’s transit backwards in the last decan of Scorpio has been mostly about healing the wounding and transforming of the Masculine archetype. The transition away from traditional male roles that have been violent or domineering is being healed here, though some of this energy coming up for healing has taken the form of rage or violent acts…especially around confusion in the way men action themselves or look at their sexuality and sexual roles. This was certainly manifested in the tragic Orlando massacre, the murder of the British MP Jo Cox, and riots or violent acts during the Euro 2016 soccer matches in which the British fans were predominantly featured. In this situation Mars occupies the 2nd house of security and financial resources, and the natal Ceres is in the chart’s 8th house of shared resources, taxes, real estate, trusts and investments. The fallout after the vote result in the financial sectors worldwide was swift and deeply dramatic.
   
   
3. Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn opposing the UK Union natal Moon in Cancer: This is going to be a longer term trend as Pluto will not exactly oppose the UK Moon until January 18th, 2018. Nonetheless, this Pluto transit was the instigator of the subprime housing market crash in the U.S. in 2007-2008, and it will deeply demand transformation of the financial and economic life within Britain for a long time to come. London may or may not continue in its role as a leader in the investment markets, and the pressure to reform and to eliminate tax exemptions and haven for the wealthy will only get louder and stronger.
   
   

That’s the big picture for this moment in the timeline. As Uranus reverses direction in late July we will have a reprieve from major shocks until Jan-April 2017. By early autumn we should have a clearer idea of where things are headed and have bit of breathing space. Let’s hope so anyway.

You best option is to keep asking for the guidance and resources you desire and require to bring your unique and valued contribution to the creation of a new Earth. We cannot go back to the past. We also cannot do it all alone. During the toughest of times it would be best to remember we’re all in the same band together, and learning how to master our instruments. Each one has their part to play.

Tomorrow’s Full Moon followed 12 hours later by the ingress of the Sun into the sign of Cancer will be a game-changer. Welcome to the next level y’all!!

There are so many synchronous alignments via the language of astrology, that it would be a bit too easy to enumerate each and every one and have a field day chatting about all the meanings and possible ramifications. The devil is in the details they say, and too often we are seduced by the minutiae to appreciate the feeling of what is actually transpiring. However, I cannot move on until I reiterate one key point concerning the Full Moon chart (see below). The 29th Degree is the degree of Fate, where anything can or will happen, with our without your conscious cooperation. Just a little thing to keep in mind tomorrow and in the weeks and months beyond…and believe me…this event will be felt for months.

Indigenous cultures such as the Mayans have studied the heavens and created massive calendar-based cosmologies from the research, while other matriarchal-based cultures that knew next to nothing about astronomy or astrology were instinctually aware of the significance of the Equinoxes and Solstices, and prepared themselves accordingly with rituals, feasts and an array of divinatory arts to “forecast” the fates of individual, tribes or an entire culture.

Our generation is poised at the threshold of the so-called “digital era”, and so I felt it important to highlight some things around that, and also around how we better uplevel our understanding of what it means to be a human being and what these revolutionary-evolutionary times are about. Our electronic information age has, in a sense, trapped us. We are so awash in raw data that attempting to correlate and collate this vast reservoir of thought and perception is almost impossible. We seem to think we’re ahead of the curve, but perhaps that’s another illusion that the current Saturn-Neptune square in Sagittarius and Pisces is providing us. A new way of perceiving is beckoning to us, a way that is ancient and almost forgotten. However, are we listening?

The very nature of digital communications is affecting our senses, physiology and psychology. We’re in the midst of a global identity crisis. As we exchange our organic identities for our faux personas in social media and across the internet, our residual digital afterimage (as Morpheus tried to explain to Neo in the movie classic “The Matrix”) starts to be our new identity. A modern-day aboriginal would never suffer this sort of confusion, as he or she is organically identified with the pulsations and rhythms of Nature and the wider Cosmos.

That same “primitive” tribal person is also psychologically sound, as he/she knows that their personal identity is woven inexorably with the members or their culture and the environment. No mental health services or psychotropic pharmaceuticals are required, as is the case in our cultures where a strong individuated sense of self is now being digitized and homogenized. The only exceptions are when so-called primitive cultures are discovered and then absorbed into the modern civilizations around it. Then the dysfunctional aspects of our societies begin to mirror themselves in their culture via poverty, alcohol and drug abuse, violence, and a sense of hopelessness and feeling without a purpose.

At our core inside each of us is a deep desire to know who we are, where we originated from, and what our purpose for being is. Some of us are successfully merging with this and beginning to find our “mission” in the wider world. Many more such people are needed to bridge the gap. We are attempting to create a new sense of global community and interdependence, while at that same time trying to maintain some kind of stable order within a system that is essentially hostile to pagan or indigenous ideas of a world community framework that is based on deeper values…values that aren’t compatible with the current political, religious, or social engineering models and capitalistic institutions. The stress levels inherent in this are beginning to show as big cracks in social cohesion and the general mental and emotional health of millions of people.

The statistics backing this up are there for anyone to investigate, and I won’t quote them here. We’ve seen it across the headlines for years, and certainly can tell that the pace of entropy these last few months is accelerating. However, there are many bright spots across the landscape of headline news and conflicting opinions. One of them is a spate of new scientific inquiry that is studying the potential effects of living within our recent (last 30 years) artificially constructed electro-magnetic fields. More studies are showing how our cellular (mobile) communications devices and WIFI networks may impact not only our physical health, but the ways in which we perceive ourselves and the outer world.

Shamanic and mystical traditions are being seriously studied as an alternative or complement to traditional psychiatric models for healing. The rise in the use of plant ceremonies using Ayahuasca and other natural substances are gaining acceptance as being more effective for some persons than pharmaceutical remedies for alleviating debilitating traumas and restoring people’s faith. The trend to downsizing in housing, the rise of permaculture and organic farming methods, and the examination of our food chain practices are all accelerating. Underneath these “new” green ideas is an ever-growing sense that the Planet is starting to force us to grow up via the threat of permanent climate change and uncertainty to cooperate in new (old) ways for mutual survival. This is all part of the where the Nodes are in our astrological map right now…as the North Node in Virgo helps the focus to be on service to others versus service only to self.

So the short message that encapsulates all of what I’ve touched on so far is that since the End of the Mayan Calendar on the Winter Solstice of 2012 (when the Sun moved from the 29th degree of Sagittarius into Capricorn) IS the end of the world as we have known it.

The 3 years of the Uranus-Pluto squares, the transit of Saturn in Scorpio, the current Grand Cross in Mutable signs with Mars retrograde in Scorpio, joined by retrograde Pluto in Capricorn, retrograde Neptune in Pisces and retrograde Saturn in Sagittarius square to each other all are contributing to our maturation process, or our ability to respond (responsibility) to our collective Crises (opportunity to change). The one mistake we cannot afford to make is to think or believe that somehow we are alone or entirely on our own in trying to correct our mistakes and change our direction. That is my message of tomorrow’s Full Moon and our movement into the sign of Cancer via the Summer Solstice. We are never ever alone…and never have been.

Welcome to the Next (Up) Level. Beginning today and lasting most of the rest of this coming week I suggest a state of active mind-full-ness about merging your deepest desires with a larger vision (yours, of course) of what you’d like an earthly Eden to look like! What gifts, talents and juicy ideas would you have for co-creating this opportunity? Next, invite the Planet into your plans…not as some symbolic gesture but as if you were inviting Her to participate in helping you understand HerStory, Her Ways, and to consciously participate in Her Soulutions and Suggestions.

We can no longer afford to look upon this world as anything but part of who we are and vice versa. We can no longer afford to look out at the canopy of stars above and see ourselves as separate, lost, orphaned, or cut off from those heavenly abodes, the multidimensional adventures that lie beyond our mortal sight. We are surrounded by angels and agents of inspiration. All we have to do is ask. No matter what your favorite or familiar spiritual practice or philosophy might be, try to let go of the labels and the doctrines and choose to be a member of the human species, the Mother we call Earth, and truth of Love that created and creates it all. The only thing that stands in our way of realizing a real heaven in our lives, are our limiting beliefs, or adhering to a false story of being fallen or not good enough.

Our personal happiness is important, and being self-sourcing is essential. Yes, we’re all supposed to shine, like John Lennon said. However we still have some growing up to do so it’s a good idea to say to the highest concept of what you could call the creator within, AND the Creator without…”show me the way, so I can realize my potential, and assist others who ask in a like manner.” We aren’t omniscient…we cannot see all outcomes or purposes from our limited perspective. A certain type of humility is healthy for our own safety. Only our arrogance or pride can derail us from our deep desires, or our highest potential.

Right…so break out into Nature! Do a ritual jig or dance. Talk to the Planet…you can start with a flower, tree or a bumblebee. Doesn’t really matter…make it your own style. Be a bit of a pagan. Oh, and leave your cell or mobile phone at home…switched off. Really immerse yourself in communing with organic reality for a while...preferably barefooted if you can manage it. Go ahead, go pagan for a bit.

After the Solstice we still have a ways to travel through the summer months and early Autumn till we see things really beginning to roll forward. Next up this week is the Brexit vote in the UK, amongst other possibly world-shaking events. The last advice I’ll leave you with is from a favorite film of mine starring Kevin Spacey – KPAX.

In the 1960’s I was fascinated by a U.S. television show called “The Twilight Zone”. The show was hosted by an enigmatic, chain-smoking and well-dressed man by the name of Rod Serling. Each week’s episode would explore different realms of the subconscious mind and some alien or  psychic landscapes. Sometimes scary or shocking, but always thought-provoking, the stories were like little morality tales about our human foibles and our obsessions, especially with the unknowns of Life: who are we, where did we come from, and where are we going?

This past week, and for most of the month of June we have been and will be in our own little Twilight Zone, a period of time which will re-frame many things, chief among them being Love and our mode of relating between the genders. Try as I might to avoid astrological reference points, I am compelled to use their archetypes to illustrate our current perceptual and experiential situation. Our current mix of ingredients are: New Moon at 14 degrees of Gemini, with Venus exactly merged with the Sun-Moon. Mars Retrograde at 27 Scorpio (Mars is the ruler of Aries, the sign the Uranus-Eris are currently occupying at 23 Aries). A Grand Cross in Mutable Signs-Elements including the Sun, Moon and Venus, Jupiter in Virgo, and Saturn Retrograde in Sagittarius. A Grand Trine in Earth Signs, with Pluto Retrograde in Capricorn, Mercury in Taurus and North Node in Virgo. Chiron in Pisces trine Mars Retro in Scorpio, sextile to Uranus in Aries. ​As usual I've provided an image of the chart at the end of this blog.

Mutability implies malleability. It’s like mists across a road on a summer’s evening, making the trees look indistinct are if they’re floating on air. Or how one element can blend into another, morphing and altering its original configuration and taking on the characteristics of whatever it comes in contact with. This is a dance of mimicry and counter-mimicry, chameleons and camouflage. This Twilight Zone is the place where it gets really challenging to discern what is real and what is illusion. This is the domain of Neptune and Pisces, the sign it rules. However, Neptune also represents the higher octave of Venus, and rules unconditional Love of a cosmic or divine origin, and Venus is prominent at this New Moon and it will continue to be a very strong influence as it travels with the Sun through the heavens into early July.

Now you’re wondering, what will this delicacy taste like when it’s done? Sorry, I can’t say with any absolute certainty what it will be like. This is a new recipe, and we’ve never tried it before. Uncertainty will reign throughout June, and we are going to have to muddle along as best as possible until June 29th…at the very least. With this much morphogenetic flux involved, we are encouraged to be visionaries without a script, intrepid explorers without a map, and fearless adventurers without a safety net. Like Captain Jack Sparrow’s crazy compass, we will be constantly spinning around and around and asking ourselves, “what is it that I want most in this world?” Ahh, that’s the rub, aye! And the crew was always asking him, “do we have a heading?”  Well, sort of.

Well, what do you want most in this world?  I know, I know, that is a question with many answers. Let’s put it this way. If you had to choose just one thing you wanted to experience to its utmost before you died, what would that be?

During a recent coaching session with a client I found myself saying to her that what we achieve in this lifetime is the totality of our experiences and memories because that is all we can leave this life with. Everything else dissolves and is left behind - material possessions and wealth, people and pets we’ve known and loved (until the next meetup), career achievements, or status  and power. All of it turns to dust in a matter of moments. Back to the question - What is the greatest prize you can experience in this life that neither time nor space can diminish? Well, pretty easy I’d say. Love, or something like that. In fact, all you can ever discover about yourself is secondary to this singular realization…which is that you’re made of and from...Love. So, the desire to give and receive that in balance and complete trust is completely natural and part of our natures. Or, at least we sure hope it could be that way.

Here is the cornerstone then of this month...the transition of Love from twilight to sunlight. Funny it should be also the same month that is noted for weddings, a Solstice and the end of the school year in the Northern Hemisphere. We are coming to grips with our foggy notions and illusions about what we most want, need and desire. If what you've been experiencing up till now is not working for you any longer then this is the time to strike up a conversation with yourself about your priorities. Then, to make the changes you want to in July and beyond, you'll have to seize your day, so to speak. However, proceed with extreme care and caution. Right below the surface lurk monsters and all manner of unresolved hurts and traumas. We’ve all become use to wearing polite masks so that others won't see them or be offended, or so that we won't have to acknowledge them and deal with them. This month is the great unmasking in a sense (Uranus-Eris) . Hiding our truth from ourselves and others is a not a workable strategy.

Another reason for the shedding of skins and dropping of masks is so that we can deliver the best of who we are to others during these times of change and uncertainty. Our new “work” should be more about play than survival, but let’s be honest here. Survivability and sustainability will be the new economy, as the old order continues its crumbling decline. Communities will eventually replace corporations. Entrepreneurship will continue to morph and grow out of its roots in the old economic model, and evolve into more cooperative joint ventures. Tribes will replace the Nation-States. Now all of this isn’t going to transpire overnight. That would be Neptunian wish fulfilment!

So, where do we begin? The old strategy is to come up with new intentions for the New Moon. Usually a grand idea, but how about we add “this or something better”, or “and whatever’s for the highest and best good of all” to our wish lists? The North Node in Virgo, anchored with Pluto and Mercury will be asking us, “service to self, or service to others?” Expand your desires so that what you choose for yourself you desire for all to experience and have. Really, there is no “other”. We are who we are, part of everything and each other.

So grab your compass, spin the needle and get ready to sail off towards a new horizon. Where are we going to land? No idea. How will it be during the voyage? Well, can’t say. Are you willing to take some risks for a chance at true happiness, and true love?  Good, then we have our heading!!
