“The Battle of Salamis”
Observations of the Greek Uprising, January 26th, 2015
In the famous Battle of Salamis, the Greek navy managed to lure the massive Persian fleet into a narrow strait in the Aegean Sea called Salamis. In that decisive victory for Greece, the Persian king Xerxes threats to subjugate the world’s first democracy came to an abrupt end.
Yesterday's election in Greece might resemble an instant replay…without the heroics and bloodshed. However, there may well now be a frontal assault on the rest of the EU and the banking sector. Only time will tell.
Since I don’t know for sure when the polls closed in Athens, I’ve selected 21:00 local time. The actual winner was declared last night, and the Syriza party is now calling the shots. More about the headlines here.
The chart is quite telling though…even without an accurate poll-closing time. (chart below)
1. Uranus and the South Node in Aries in the 7th house of the chart – this is the “austerity contract” that binds Greece to the EU’s mandate. The North Node in Libra is in the 1st House, the Greeks collective self-identity. These two points, the South (the karmic baggage) and the North (the collective soul-yearning and destiny) are triggered by Pluto in Capricorn forming right-angles, tension-filled squares, to both points of the Nodal Axis. Something’s gotta give and Transformation is demanded!
2. Mercury is Retrograde at 14 degrees of Aquarius. It is opposed by June (the edges of our Consciousness, and “who shall we be in relationship with?”) in Leo. There needs to be a balance with reflection. Anything that is done or undone contractually under this influence may have to be ‘done over’ at some later time.
3. The asteroid Goddess Pallas Athene, the female general, is in a benefic trine with Uranus and the South Node and also with Juno. Perhaps this influence has a harmonizing effect to bring the new Greek government together with the ECB (European Central Bank) and renegotiate the terms of the bank bailout. It could also indicate the insertion of a third party, like the World Bank or IMF to try to prop up the existing deal in order to prevent a collapse in the Eurozone. Hard to discern actually, as both Neptune and Mars square Pallas Athene…which makes it all very foggy and dodgy.
Whatever the repercussions, it won’t be business as usual after this election. Won’t have long to wait to see what happens, but this may take a while to unravel…like all the way past the next Pluto – Uranus square on March 17th of this year.
Let’s hope that there isn’t a mass sinking of the financial markets that matches the sound of sinking Persian vessels in the Straits of Salamis.
